Abstract

Impact of Vitamin B12 on Thrombocytopenia in Dengue Fever Patients

Background: Thrombocytopenia with vitamin B12 deficiency in dengue fever patients. Methodology: In the study, 81 dengue patients were involved. The platelet counts and vitamin B12 levels were mainly evaluated along with other baseline parameters like age, gender and NS1 antigen. Results: Dengue patients having thrombocytopenia are negatively correlated with vitamin B12 level indicating that vitamin B12 deficiency in dengue fever patients lead to increased thrombocytopenia (r=-0.162, p value<0.05). Conclusion: Vitamin B12 deficiency led to mild to severe thrombocytopenia in dengue fever patients.
