Preventive healthcare is the action taken to prevent disease. Environmental factors, genetic predisposition, infectious agents, and lifestyle choices influence illness and disability and are complex mechanisms which start before individuals know that they are affected. Prevention of disease is based on anticipatory measures that can be classified as primary, primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. Millions of people die from preventable deaths every year. A 2004 study showed that about half of all deaths in the U.S. in 2000 were attributed to habits and conditions that were preventable this is an increase from the year 2000, during which 60% of deaths were attributed to these diseases. Given the worldwide increase in the incidence of chronic diseases and deaths from these diseases, preventive healthcare is particularly important.
