Description

A thorough analysis of the American preventive medicine residency program's structure is necessary. Since 2000, there has been a 17% decrease in the number of public health and general preventive medicine residencies in the United States; as a result, the majority of these programs are currently half full. Preventive medicine does not have a required clinical year, an undifferentiated basic require does not i dentify a preventive medicine specialist, and the practicum year requirements are too general and may not be specific to the field, making the specialty susceptible to equivalency with most other specialties.

Public health

Although the specialty of preventive medicine in the United States has been studied, further research is necessary to fully understand the residency program's structure, which may be just as responsible for the specialty's hazy identity. Since 2000, the number of residency programs in preventive medicine hereafter referring exclusively to the fields of public health and general preventive medicine has decreased by 17% in the United States. As a result, the majority of residency programs including those that receive federal funding are currently only half full. Preventive medicine doctors do not seem to have a shared idea of what the specialty entails, and there is no clear or anticipated career path for them beyond residency. Each panelist contributed to the creation of the Consensus Statement and gave their approval to the finished product. The material was distributed to outside peer reviewers for audit. Before publishing, the document was made available for review and discussion by all the Scientific Societies members who were involved in its creation. Before being published and accepted as an official document by the participating societies, the final version was reviewed and approved by the Executive Committee of SEIMC and the other societies involved in the consensus.

Medical diagnostic

The clinical year in preventive medicine is the first example of equivalency. In summary, preventative medicine is not the only field that requires a clinical year. The Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education, states that preventive medicine residents must "perform all medical, diagnostic, and surgical procedures considered essential for the area of practice." However, any approved PGY-1 clinical training, such as neurosurgery or pathology, is acceptable. Since the beginning of time, the influenza virus has plagued people, causing yearly epidemics as well as sporadic pandemics. This respiratory infection has a significant impact on people's life on both a social and individual level, and it also places a heavy load on the healthcare system. The collaboration of several Spanish scientific societies studying influenza virus infection resulted in this consensus document. The best available scientific data and, in the event that none is available, the consensus of the gathered experts form the basis of the findings reached. The Consensus Document covers the clinical, microbiological, therapeutic, and preventive aspects of influenza in both adult and pediatric populations both in terms of vaccination and prevention of transmission.
