The rapid spread of the virus necessitated robust surveillance systems to monitor case numbers, hospitalizations and deaths. Public health agencies worldwide implemented extensive surveillance measures to track the virus’s spread and inform vaccination strategies, travel restrictions and public health guidelines. The pandemic underscored the need for adaptable and resilient surveillance systems that can respond swiftly to emerging threats. In conclusion, disease surveillance is a foundational element of public health that enables the monitoring and control of diseases within populations.
